I had an eye appointment and got new contacts during my first pregnancy. They didn't dilate my eyes but were otherwise able to perform the full examination. I got new contacts and have kept the same prescription through that pregnancy, afterwards, and now during this pregnancy. The eye doctor told me I probably wouldn't be able to wear my contacts while pregnant, but I've never had any problems and have worn contacts almost every day of my life for the last 15 years. I do wear glasses occasionally, but it's only when I'm feeling super lazy. :)

My eyes have gotten so bad I can barely see with my glasses but they don't want to change to my prescription

I'm an optometrist and see pregnant patients all the time. Yes your vision may change during pregnancy, it may even change a little after giving birth. I usually recommend to my contact lens patients to only purchase enough boxes to get through the pregnancy...maybe up until a month after. I also offer to recheck any of my pregnant patients free of charge if they have a change in vision after having the baby. My office even does contact lens exchange if the Rx is different after baby:) Hey, you have no control over what your pregnancy may do to your vision. Why be stuck with lenses you can't use? I know every doctor is different, but that's how we do it in my office. You could opt to stick with your glasses until after the baby arrives, but I know most contact lens patients really like being in their lenses instead. Check with your doc to see what his/her policy is on exchanging lenses.

    Hope this helps!!

Thanks for all your help ladies! I will call my doc and see what his policies are! I hope they are as liberal as yours "eyedoc"! I really can not fathom wearing glasses for the next 4 months, I love my contacts.

    Thanks again!

During my first pregnancy the vision in my left eye changed enough that my prescription needed to be changed (yes just one eye-weird). That was permanent. A bigger problem was that I lost my ability to wear contacts when I was pregnant with my first, after about an hour my eyes get really red and itchy and water uncontrollably, also my vision goes blurry. same thing happened a few years before when I was taking a certain BC pill. It stopped when I stopped taking the pill. When it came back during pregnancy it became a permanent thing. I wear my glasses everyday now. Doctor explained that it has to do with changing hormones. I thought was weird until i mentioned it to my rocket scientist uncle (yes a real one) and he gave me an unbelievably boring 15 minute lecture on HOW hormones can lead to changes in the muscles of the eye. Yawn i didnt take much from it LOL. Suffice it to say. The hormones do it. Hopefully you won't be affected as me but I like my funky glasses so not that big a deal:D

  • I have to go back for my exam in October, as I have to have my eyes dialated.

  • I just went on Thurs. and got a new RX. It will be fine. They just won't dilate you. I went and got a new RX when I was pregnant with DS, and my contacts were fine after delivery.

I had one just not the dialation. The rx hadn't actually changed at all. I just have noticed that my eyes are drier and my contacts are harder to wear

  • I just had an eye exam last weekend because I was out of contacts as well. It had been 2 years and my eyes didn't change at all. I left with the same Rx and as others said they did not dilate my eyes.

I called my office because I was running long too, and they gave me enough to get through my pregnancy
