Im 8 Weeks Pregnant and Showing Could It Be Twins

Twin Pregnancy Guide Week 8 and 9

At this point in your pregnancy, there's a good chance you know you're having twins. How do you know if you're having twins?

Most doctor's offices will do a dating ultrasound around the 8 week mark. At 8 weeks, an ultrasound will clearly show if there are one or two babies.

My first ultrasound with our twins was at 7 weeks.

So, if you've just found out that you're expecting twins and you stumbled upon my blog during your frantic google or Pinterest search about what to expect during a twin pregnancy…

Let me humbly welcome you to the twin mom club. It's amazing. I mean, it's really, really hard, but it's also such a joy.

Here is what to expect as you journey into twin pregnancy during week 8 and week 9.

Symptoms at 8 and 9 Weeks Pregnant With Twins

At 8 or 9 weeks pregnant with twins, you are right smack in the thick of it.

It's. So. Hard.

But… it will not last forever. I repeat, it will not last forever!

Morning Sickness

Morning sickness *ahem* all-day sickness, is one of the most common symptoms women experience in the first trimester.

With a twin pregnancy, you have double hormones flowing through your body, so it's very likely that you experience really intense morning sickness.

Keep in mind, that despite feeling incredibly nauseous 24/7, you might not actually throw up. I never experienced actually throwing up once, with any of my 3 pregnancies.

However, the nausea was consistent. And having been pregnant with a singleton, twins, and then a singleton again, I can say with confidence that morning sickness is way worse with a twin pregnancy.

With my third pregnancy, I discovered a product called Tummy Drops that helped tremendously.

I was skeptical to spend $10 on a bag of hard candies, but I swear to you… they are 100% worth it. Whenever I felt a bout of nausea coming on, I popped on in my mouth.

Let's just say I went through several bags of them! I tried both the peppermint and double ginger peach, and they were both amazing.

Fatigue

You will likely never experience fatigue like that of twin pregnancy.

I felt as if my entire body was hit with a semi-truck, and then I was drugged. Couldn't keep my eyes open, body collapsing into bed every chance I got kind of drugged.

My advice is to take a nap whenever you possibly can. Have your hubby pick up takeout for dinner or rely on freezer meals.

You need to rest if you can! Granted, it's a lot easier said than done if you work or have other children (I had both).

Rest assured that it's perfectly normal to feel this way. Not only is your body growing two beautiful babies, but depending on the type of twin pregnancy, two placentas and amniotic sacs.

Once you enter the second trimester, you will feel a bit more energy (although not quite the same as you would during a singleton pregnancy).

Mood Swings

They call them raging hormones for a reason… they will make you rage. Or cry. Or both. Try to not get yourself into situations that are overly stressful, which is easier said than done!

If you feel as if your emotions are difficult to control, try to walk away before you snap or say something that you regret. And, if you do go into a rage, be sure to apologize as soon as you cool down.

Breast Tenderness

Your breasts are most likely extremely tender and sensitive, as well as growing in size. It may be uncomfortable to sleep at night. Try wearing a loose-fitting sports or sleeping bra at night.

Frequent Urination

While definitely not the worst pregnancy symptom, having to pee all the time sure is annoying!

My doctor suggested that I pee, stand up, and then sit down and try to pee again. He also suggested bending forward completely to help empty my bladder entirely.

Constipation

Staying hydrated and keeping up your fiber intake will really help with this! I had a hard time eating fruits and vegetables during my first trimester. I found that high fiber cereal really helped, as well as sprinkling yogurt with chia seeds and flaxseed.

8-9 Week Twin Pregnancy Belly

Between 8 and 9 weeks into your twin pregnancy, your uterus will be growing and expanding. It's not uncommon for your pants to be a bit snug, if you can even button them at all!

You probably feel like it's so incredibly obvious that you're pregnant… but the rest of the world won't notice just yet.

Twin Fetal Development at 8-9 Weeks

How Big Are Twins at 8 Weeks?

By 8 weeks, your twins are about 1/2-3/4 of an inch and weigh .04 oz. In fruit terms, they are about the size of a raspberry!

At 8-weeks, they are also starting to develop webbed hands and feet, their fingers and toes are starting to form, and the tail is almost completely gone.

How Big Are Twins at 9 Weeks?

By 9 weeks, your twins are about .9 inches and weigh .07 ounces. In fruit terms, they are the size of a cherry.

The 9th week of pregnancy is a big week for fetal development, as it marks the end of the embryo period. This means, that by the end of the 9th week, your babies no longer be an embryo, and develop into a fetus.

9 weeks pregnant with twins

My entry for weeks 8-9 read:

Week 8

"TWINS. WE ARE HAVING TWINS. WE ARE HAVING TWINS. TWO BABIES.

I have food aversions to almost everything. Food is gross. My fatigue is INSANE and I'm having heartburn as well.

Fears: Lack of sleep we will experience when the twins are hear, and being pregnant (WITH TWINS!!!) with an active toddler. I'm anxious about both twins making it, and financial stress and whether or not I can continue to work."

Week 9

I. Am. Exhausted. I can't eat anything and I'm feeling depressed about how terrible I feel.

Fears: I am so so fearful that both of my babies won't make it.
